British Chapter News

(Story added : September 22, 2009) - Chairman’s Message

imageWelcome to the new British Chapter website.  I am sure that you would like to join me in congratulating Matt Harris (FI’09) of Pixelwork for producing a fantastic website for us.  Matt has put countless hours into this project, largely in his own time and at his own expense and I cannot thank him enough for all he has done. The Explorers Club are so impressed by what they have seen that they have asked Matt to assist them in developing a new HQ website in New York.

I know that a number of you are working on some pretty exciting expeditions and projects, some of which will be featured on this website during the coming months.  Please do include your profile on the Members page if you have not already done so as it is useful for other members of the Chapter to know who you are.  Also do feel free to include some of your best photographs in the gallery; with a number of professional photographers and cameramen as chapter members the standard is going to be very high!

I would like to see our Chapter membership increase to about 150 – 200 members and I believe that this website will help us to achieve that.  If you could also recruit just one new member then that will take us to our target.

Please do use the facilities available on this your Chapter website.  It has been developed to enable you to notify other members and the world at large of your expeditions, events, book launches, TV documentaries, websites etc.  We have included Twitter and LinkedIn social networking facilities and these can be pretty useful for keeping in contact, developing networks and sending information back from the field.  Finally I would like to include a video montage of members expeditions on the home page so please do send in video clips to Matt at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) preferably in .mov format and hopefully we can have this up and running very soon.

Finally we have some pretty exciting lectures lined up in conjunction with The Travellers Club.  For those of you who would like to socialise over dinner following the lectures, I can assure you that the three-course set menu including wine at The Travellers Club at £38 per head has to be the best value anywhere in town.  I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the first of our new season’s lecture programme on 19th October 2009 at The Travellers Club (see the Events page).  I can promise you that Mikael Strandberg’s lecture is one of the most enthralling that you will ever hear !

I look forward to seeing you soon.
