How to Join

Completing the Application Form

Before you download and complete the Explorers Club application form it may be worth spending just a few minutes of your time to check that you qualify for membership. We have created this short checklist that if you can answer positively should mean that you are highly likely to be successful to join as a Member or Fellow of the Explorers Club.Click the question heading for more information

If in doubt or if you require further support or information contact us at : chair@britishexplorers.org .

Have you ever participated in a scientific expedition?
You need not have climbed Everest by a new route, dived to the deepest point in the ocean, or discovered a new dinosaur. What we are looking for are individuals who have either made a contribution towards the better understanding of our planet or our universe and/or have participated in one or more documented scientific expeditions.Tourism or adventurous travel by comparison, is enjoyed primarily for pleasure or self education. Therefore, extensive travel photography, participation in educational tours, extreme sports or similar pursuits in remote parts of the world do not alone qualify one to become a member.
If so where, when and for how long and what was your role?
How long was the expedition? Did you lead, actively participate or were you engaged in documenting the expedition.
What was the outcome of the expedition & was any scientific discovery published or filmed ?
What form of documentation supports the expedition and it's findings - was it filmed for TV or research purposes, are there articles or any of your work published in either scientific journals, wider market media publications or as official expedition reports?

If You're Not Eligible

If you don't think you fit the bill yet but would still like to become a member then there are lots of organisations that can assist you to get field experience, including Earthwatch, the Scientific Exploration Society or Raleigh International. Should you wish you can also join as an "Associate" of the Explorers Club which will enable you to attend events including the prestigious Explorers Club Annual Dinner (ECAD) in New York.
